Wedding at The Knowle Kent

Amie and Shane’s Kent wedding was so pretty with its pastel pink theme running through each element, from the bridesmaids’ dresses through to the shabby chic reception decor. I am so thrilled that this couple asked me to be their wedding photographer at The Knowle because their wedding was so full of exciting things to capture, including a dove release, a bouncy castle, a candy cart, and later into the evening even a photo booth to pickup those hilarious evening photos of guests! I’ve never seen so many elements in a single day! Not to mention those four seriously cute flower girls!

This was the first time I’ve ever captured a dove release! Gulp! I handed my assistant a camera just in case! Fortunately, we both got some lovely shots which has made me keen to shoot more weddings where doves will feature. I’ve never really given this idea much thought in the past but when I watched the doves fly free, I realised that I’m a pretty sentimental kind of gal as I felt inspired by how this symbolic act could represent so many different things to different people; it could represent the beginning of the journey of married life, an acknowledgement and tribute to a deceased relative, a way of letting go of the past as this new phase of life starts, perhaps wishes made together for married life, the first new experience to share as newlyweds, or a simple gift back to the Earth. Told you I was sentimental, *wipes a tear…

I have recently been inspired (no, mesmerised) by a couple of American wedding photographers, and, admiring their style and approach, I decided to get brave with Amie and Shane’s wedding by ramping up my editorial vision for their wedding photography. Thankfully, having an assistant means I can make greater use of lighting and more easily organise and manage the day to curate photos with more deliberate posing and placement of items. I am really delighted with how this helped me to create beautiful shots of Amie’s bridal accessories which I feel strongly evoke the theme of their wedding. I love being creative and am looking forward to spring-boarding from other couple’s themes, decor and accessories to craft wedding photos that capture the elements of their wedding which make it unique to them.

Amie was also very willing to participate in what can only be described as a mini post-dinner fashion shoot! With a gentle lighting set up, and a make-shift set I crafted from Amie and Shane’s gorgeous table decor, we were thrilled with how the photos celebrate Amie’s bridal look set off by a hint of the details she chose for her wedding. This reflects my other passion which is for photographing women and celebrating them looking their best, and what better day to do that than on her wedding day?

I’m back at The Knowle again for Olivia and Chris’ wedding – seriously the most unusual yet… check back in a few weeks to find out why! (I’m so excited!)
