Wow. Olivia and Chris’ day was made for a wedding photographer! Picture it: an unlikely fusion of Mormon and Indian wedding traditions, against the backdrop of a Kentish Gothic mansion!

Olivia’s two dresses, the classic, demure white number and a glitzy red sari, reflected both religions that have influenced her upbringing. She looked absolutely stunning in both.

With two ceremonies on the day, both within the couple’s own Mormon faith, the itinerary was unlike any other wedding I have ever attended. The sunny, outdoor ceremony in the morning was filled with shared stories about the couple, as well as loving words, prayers and advice for married life from their family and friends. There was congragational singing as well as instrumental and vocal performances from guests which added to the sense of celebration. It was the most personal ceremony I have ever witnessed and I certainly felt uplifted by the sentimental value of this warm, embracing sort of celebration.

Their second ceremony took place in London at the LDS Temple where I was not allowed to photograph, but upon their return, you could tell from their recount and happy demeanour, that it was a very spiritual experience by which to mark their commitment to each other.

Their return was marked by processional Indian Bhangra drumming, which was a surprise from Olivia’s parents, much to the couple and their guests’ delight.

The unusual schedule to their day enabled me to have two separate portrait sessions with the couple, which has become my preferred way of working because it means we can maximise opportunities (light, location, time, how relaxed a couple are, etc.) to capture a variety of shots. I also shot the bridal party photos later in to the evening which was so. much. fun. and Olivia’s six bridesmaids (yes, six!) were fantastic sports as they were relaxed enough by this point in the day to suggest ideas of their own and have some fun. It was an enjoyable, girly, bonding sort of session and I loved having so many bridesmaids to have some photographic fun with!

Olivia and Chris had their first dance outside during the ‘golden hour’ before the set sets, another first for me! I was able to capture that hazy glow that this beautiful light brings and their first dance photos have a romantic feel which I think sets the scene perfectly for this young couple’s love story.
