Hazel and Mark chose pink, gold and rose-gold as a gentle and romantic colour scheme that perfectly complemented their vintage shabby-chic theme. I imagined I’d be photographing familiar-feeling decor as this theme choice reflects a currently bubbling wedding trend, however, I was still totally surprised by the reception decor because it wasn’t the bunting and mismatched china that I was expecting. It felt like an ironic but beautiful designer-take on the popular ‘make-do and mend’ retro concept. Painted Mason jars, gold-sprayed wooden name place settings personalised for every guest, rose gold sequin table runners, Pintrest-worthy patterned mini flags on sticks, and wooden log slice centrepieces were some of the elements that stood out and made me ‘oo’ and ‘ah’ for most of the day! In contrast, the otherwise pure white table linen and crockery was the perfect canvas for these splashes of prettiness.

For the children, there were fun and games with a coconut shy and ‘hook the duck’, whilst the adults enjoyed a picture cut-out stand, candy cart and best of all, an actual VW camper-van which had been lovingly converted into a photo booth. They literally had it all, even the ever-popular large dance floor ‘LOVE’ letter lights (which make for lovely backlighting during the first dance, particularly in video).

One little touch which I had a personal hand in was their guest book which they had previously asked me to create using their engagement photos. It was lovely to see their family and friends enjoying these images and making good use of them.

Instax Min8This was the first wedding to which I have also taken my Fujifilm Instax camera. It has become a bit of an Instagram cult classic for its instant Polaroid-style photos and the retro-feel to its prints. We had fun posing and sharing the printouts. In this case, it’s much less about the quality of the images and more about the instant, sharable nature of those little moments throughout the day. They feel like true snap shots! It’s super easy to use, comes in a variety of attention-grabbing colours and makes a fantastic talking point.

We somehow managed to avoid the intermittent rainy showers to have an outdoor ceremony, group and couple shots and sparklers! All with the couple’s little dog, Doris, running around and enjoying the celebrations!

Kent Wedding Photographer - Kate HennessyHi! I’m Kate, a Wedding Photographer from Kent!

“Yes, I was back at The Knowle for this wedding! This gothic mansion with its countryside feel (whilst being in the heart of Higham) and its friendly, welcoming staff, is my most photographed venue. I think I might just ask if I can move in! I’d highly recommend it to anyone wanting an average-sized wedding with a sense of countryside, a flexible ceremony location (indoors or outdoors) and of course a photographer who knows it well (that’d be me)!”
